We listened to a radio interview that was broadcast this evening in the UK and online. We created notes while listening, collected here:

Listening to BBC Radio 3 interview w/ David Cronenberg (22:00 today). Will tweet some content….

#Cronenberg: # DeLillo said idea for story was big white limos prowling streets of NY, too big for Manhattan, who owned limos? @BBCRadio 3

Madison Ave. $ 47th St. NYC

DeLillo began w/this idea, not overall view of society/art. Cronenberg‘s interest was fantastic dialogue. Wanted to hear actors speak it.

There was no thought in my mind about millennia or apocalypse. Just one man in one car-that is how I began the novel.” #Cronenberg #Cosmopolis

#Cronenberg interested in the character & abstract nature of Eric’s world. Wanted film f/perspective of lead character. @BBCRadio 3

#Cronenberg: audience is in the limo, we don’t see any more than Eric sees f/ limo. Locked us into his perspective. #Cosmopolis @BBCRadio3
#Cronenberg finds fascinating money has been disconnected from production of anything real, from anything physical. #Cronenberg @BBCRadio3
[On blog, we talked about how link remains, in the Diamond District of NYC, how contrasts sharply w/Eric Packer's world.] See next ICYMI

Eric’s limo is vacuum tube- made silent to outside. Doesn’t have to deal w/vitality & chaos of life. Wants it all abstract. #Cosmopolis
I think human body is first fact of human existence. As filmmaker you photograph human body most. Human face=essence of cinema. #Cronenberg
When we think of violence, we think of it to the human body. So he focuses on this at times in his films.  #Cronenberg on @BBCRadio3 today
In my life I’d rather have zero violence, but on screen violence can be kind of illuminating  & interesting. But I’d like to keep it there.
Yes, there is a mythic quality to some stories like this. #Cronenberg on #Cosmopolis & films on violence in human existence. @BBCRadio3
Director David Cronenberg with his lead actor, Robert Pattinson

I think of my films as philosophical exploration of human condition. What it is to be human. My version of human condition, in particular.
